That's the point of the post buddy. Regarding the AAA - If the Kids on bottom teams are any good the top three teams will scoop them up. Happens all the time. Then the bottom feeders look to AA, convince mommy and daddy that your little rocket has a future. You drink the KoolAid, pay the $$$ and watch Johnny and his team get trounced game after game with zero development and zero enjoyment. But hey, you get tell your co-workers your little superstar plays AAA.
The smart ones come to their sense after a year, some take longer. But when they come back to AA, they have this AAA attitude thinking they will dominate and never do. If your kid is really AAA level, he is playing on the top 3 teams.
This thread has made for an interesting read...to say the least. However it appears your opinion on AAA and how development works for kids is not completely accurate, it is not nearly has cut and dry as you seem to think it is! Here are the points you need to consider-
- The top 3 teams in AAA (to a lesser extent TM) are EXTREME early maturation kids. 95% of the team are men.
- In terms of talent identification, it is impossible to say they are talented, when all is you see is the massive advantage of size, speed and strength. Every parent should know this - Growing early is NOT talent!
- Teams below 3rd all the way to 10 have some really good players, just not as many. Many patents will keep their players on mid pack teams, allowing them to gain more ice and not sit and watch the men play on a top 3.
- At this stage of Growth and Development the variance in Bio-logical age is approx 11-16. IE you have 11 year olds playing vs 16 year olds in maturity!
- In all of this, if you read sports science and the stats....the biggest superstars that eventually make the higher ranks of pro are actually the late maturation kids that are able to hang with the big boys despite being less mature. IE you have a biological 11 year that can put up 25 -30 pts on a mid pack team, that is playing against men! These are the athletes you look for to go far!
All very good points BUT lets get this thread back on track.
NT with a big Win over SYB and SIR beat EE again last night. EE whimpering to the finish line.
Will FH get their first win in 2025 Vs SIR tonight or will the drought continue?
Some big games later this week that will impact seating.
Remainder, FH hasn't won a game sin DEC 10
Remainder or Reminder?
We won the silver stick so we won when it mattered and we will win in the playoffs. Being the top team for the entire season puts unnecessary pressure on the kids to be perfect every night. Experimentation is required to flourish. The goal is to win the playoffs - we clinched a berth already, so now let the kids play a bit.
SYB has to be the biggest letdown so far this season.
Gary Othmann with a bunch ex-AAA kids on his team. You would think they would run shop in AA. I guess big bad Gerry is showing his true colours on what kinda coach he is.
Pay the most in the league for what?
Mid pack team with a bottom end coach!
He’s not a hockey coach.
He runs a hockey school for God sake’s!
Check out his coaching history in the past, he’s won fack all. You guys are dumb enough not to do your history on this guy.
You deserve to be on a mid pack team.
Think of it this way fellas. This man has run a hockey schools for years. Has mid pack teams when he’s coaches.
If you were in the business of running a hockey school for years, I’d say you’re as close to a professional developer as you can get.
WHY in the hell doesn’t he have the top team in the league every year is the real question. Wake up people.
What a waste of money!
Also another example that AAA drop downs don't add anything to the make up of the team. In fact, they usually disrupt the team dynamics. You want your kid to chase an extra letter to play AAA, you can probably get him on a bottom feeder team but if your kid ain't playing in the top 3 teams VK, JRC, TM and on the top two lines why bother. The notion that a kid will come down to AA and dominate is a fallacy that has yet to be proven, especially in the competitive East loop.
Buddy any AAA kid that comes down to AA was not AAA material in the first place, so essentially they are AA kids period. Your thought process of, if you don't play for the top 3 teams in AAA why bother playing??? Lmao.

That is very interesting. The problem is that OHL draft picks happen at 16 so yes kids do catch up between 16-18 but how if they are not drafted into the OHL?

Regular season is regular season. The NYK are waiting to win when it really counts. In the playoffs !
