Yup! Lower the costs, let the parents deal with that themselves on an individual level.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 1:50 pm100% agree with this post…that being said a portion of a budget is often used to cover sessions with a skills coach/skating coach that works on continuous individual improvement (from my experience anyways).Guest wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 1:31 pmThere is no reason why people should be paying $10k for hockey. Its insane, (all of it), but the GTHL takes it to another level.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 8:44 amIf your coach doesnt "do skills" - look for a new coach asap. What are you people talking about these days??Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 10:04 pmSo for $10k a year, you get no skills development? Parents are really expected to spend another $10k on skills?Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 9:49 pmYou need to understand no team coach will do skills. They expect parents do extra for skill. Coachs won't develop skills, They just replace players with better skillsGuest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 9:24 pm
Any team that isn’t focusing on skills is going to fall behind eventually.
Kids should be focused on learning how to play hockey, not learning how to shoot, or skate, etc. (Or at least it should be a small percentage of the time spent on ice).
A perfect practice in my mind:
10% warm up / cool down
20% skills
70% Hockey systems, plays, positioning, video review, white boarding, etc.
If you need to get better at skating, spend your summer skating. If you need a better shot, get in your drive way and shoot pucks, if you need better stick handling, go get a private lesson with a coach.
If you are on my team, our practices are about making the TEAM better.
But, you better not be exhausted for MY practice because you were at some private skate that morning. The whole world of Hockey needs a shake up.
Look at the generation of players right now from U10 - U16, they are all just practice players for the most part. I LOVE that you can stick handle in a phone booth. But, can you win a game of hockey? I LOVE that you can skate like McKinnon, but can you win a game of hockey? I LOVE that you shoot like Shea Weber from the point, but CAN YOU WIN A GAME OF HOCKEY!?
too many skill guys, not enough competitors. Not enough kids that HATE to lose. Not enough kids that want to make their teammates better.
