2016 AAA
Re: 2016 AAA
Bringing in kids from Asia is not something new so not sure why people are surprised. Go talk to parents of the older age groups. There are players from overseas on those teams today.

Re: 2016 AAA
VK will be a good team but not top 3. Their skills trainer is expected to take over coaching and some of their players are already looking for other opportunities. The team is also very undersized and will struggle a lot against bigger aggressive teams. They have not played against any meaningful competition other than Duffield but it was on half ice and they didn’t dominate. The difference between them and a team like Duffield is that Duffield plays in a lot of tournaments and other exhibition games. Half ice means nothing when you are just knocking the puck around like ping pong and chasing.
Re: 2016 AAA
Nats are an over coached team. You have to watch one game to see how the coach is yelling on each play and expects only to execute the set plays. Talk to any high level coach and they will tell you too much structure at 9 year old sucks and kills the creativity. It will produce short term results and eventually rest of teams will catch up and arguably be better..Guest wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 5:09 pm VK will be a good team but not top 3. Re: 2016 AAA
before posting about Nats/Duffield coaching or any other coach ask yourself if you are qualified to comment. What have you ever coached? Maybe let’s make it easier. Have you played high level hockey? If a team is over coached they would not be winning games. Coaches know what players are capable and will coach accordingly . If teams are not winning games then maybe the coach shouldn’t be coaching. If teams are winning your theory holds no weight. The strong teams that are near the top must have something to do with coaching couldn’t you agree?
Re: 2016 AAA
Couldn’t agree more. Kids at this age should have more freedom for creativity to develop. Running set plays and systems all throughout the game is a development killer. Sure on PP and PK run set plays but other than that for this age group and the next few years this should be avoided. Some coaches think these kids are mini pro hockey players and think they are great coaches. The other issue is with some coaches screaming over every play. These coaches are hated by the kids and kids will just hate playing.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:59 pmNats are an over coached team. Re: 2016 AAA
Even in gta, kids spend 15+ hours a week on ice is pretty averageGuest wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 9:06 pmDo these foreign kids speak English? Or are they machines on ice for 4 hours per day?
Re: 2016 AAA
15 hours on ice a week at this age is not normal. You sound so confident saying that but trust me that is a recipe for burnout, injuries and kids not performing. Kids this age need time to recover. I’ve not come across any parent putting their 8 year old on ice 15 hours a week. This may be the odd parent who has never played hockey and has no clue about development. Ask any coach whether 15 hours a week is normal and not a single coach will agree with this for an 8 year old. Even as good as YK kids are they are not on ice this many hours a week and also play baseball in the summer.
