ABOUT ASPEN, COLORADO
Aspen is known for being the Rocky Mountain playground of the rich and famous, but this authentic mountain town goes far beyond glitz and glam. Consistently rated one of the world's top ski areas by ski and travel publications, Aspen is also known for its world-class youth hockey program, state of art ice facilities, and hockey friendly atmosphere.
Year-Round Activities
Despite its winter reputation, the town is a year-round destination. Spring brings about abundant wildflowers in the alpine meadows, the Maroon Bells (one of the state's most iconic mountain views) offer excellent hiking with breathtaking views in the summer, and dense, golden aspen groves are a sight to behold in autumn. The area also beckons mountain bikers, kayakers and rafters, and rock climbers to explore its wonders throughout the warmer months.
The City of Aspen draws travelers to its urban cultural scene, which belies small-town charm. Art aficionados rub shoulders with wine connoisseurs and concert-goers, culinary epicures and fashion mavens vie for reservations at hot-spot restaurants, and people flock from around the world to high-profile events like the FOOD & WINE Classic and the Winter X Games. And for anyone wanting to lay their head in Aspen, accommodations run from posh to economical, ensuring everyone feels welcome.
Ice Facilities
The Aspen Recreation Center is the official home of the Aspen Leafs. Located on Maroon Creek Road, the ARC is a first class facility featuring a full aquatic center, fitness center, climbing wall, snack center, and Lewis Arena. The AJH office, AJH shooting facility, and the AJH free equipment room are housed inside the arena. The ARC continues to improve, most recently expanding and updating its strength training facility.
In the heart of downtown Aspen, The Aspen Ice Garden is one of the most historic ice rinks in the western United States. It opened its doors in 1964 to hockey legends Bob Johnson and Art Berglund, and became the founding home of the Bob Johnson Hockey School. John McBride purchased the rink in the early 70's, and subsequently founded Aspen Junior Hockey in 1972,
Fall Faceoff games are played at both Lewis Arena and The Ice Garden.
