I hope they never open. The G don’t want all the hicks wanting to play in the city.
Having been around both the G and the OMHA, I can tell you that G parents are way more crazy!
100%. All G parents think their kid is the next one. Please when speaking to a parent in the G make sure to acknowledge the talent of their kid how well he is suited for the NHL.
You have got to be kidding me. We live at the border of OMHA and GTHL boundaries. My kids have always played in the G. I cringe when I have to play up against any teams outside of the G. Parents are completely nuts at the rink. It’s an embarrassment. Any good talent coming from outside would be here already with a few exceptions. I agree open borders so if you don’t make an AAA centre then you can go to another one instead of being forced into AA.
That is already an option at AAA level; if you dont make your local AAA centre you can go to a neighbouring centre to try out and most centres have a rule on 3 imports max. It works well for OMHA at AAA level and they should apply something similar for all ages and levels. The problem for most is that you have some crazy hockey parents whose kid plays on a lower team in the standings and think that their kid is too good for them and want to play in another centre but the local association wont cut them to grant them a wish to play elsewhere.

Best part will be that they will open the borders and those kids will try to go elsewhere and not make it (or make it and then get cut year two when it's found out they were part of the losing team for a reason) and then try to come back again to their local association.

Dripping with G parent arrogance. Like someone said earlier, G parents are way more crazy.

Help me understand how this is the best part. For who exactly is this the best part?

Best part to make him laugh I guess?

Believe it or not, there are still some people who absolutely HATE the idea of going elsewhere, away from your "local association". Why? I couldn't tell you. My best guess is they feel like its an attack on them, like you are trying to be superior. However, for most people when they go elsewhere it has nothing to do with wanting to be "better" than anyone else. Often times its because there has been an unfair label put on your kid. Usually by the same people who hate you for leaving.

Its weird.
Its a bit of a power thing, I think, for people who do stay. Like "Haha, I stayed, and therefore made a better decision than you" clearly not appreciating why you may have left.

There's a lot of uncertainty for some families knowing that teams are going to break up. 9/10 times its going to be a chronically losing team, with a huge coaching turnover. It is a look in the mirror situation, if you don't have a multitude of options for your child, and you are in this situation it may be time to start looking at one level down. This is the new systems' way of working itself out.

Yikes, if you do take a step down. Is it easier to take the step back up? The road is a little weird right now. Ultimately, want AAA.

Participation in the sport is dropping year by year at the youth level, they need to do something to convince families to stick with the sport. By handcuffing kids to a centre and not allowing families a choice of where they can take their kids for development adds to the frustration.

I wonder for middle class families if player development would be better without committing to a AAA center, focus on skating and skill development throughout the winter and sign up for spring/summer tournaments for in game fun. That way no headaches of team politics, or favoritism of boys whose families providing more for the team.

Anyone out there with any suggestions? Is AAA really the best option out there?

It's really what fits best for your player and your family.

AAA is "supposed" to be the highest level but it is better in some loops than others.

First figure out what level your player is really at. Many parents will say AAA but in reality they are average AA/A players.

Second is to look at the association options available and chose what fits best for you. Driving 15 mins to AA or 60 mins to AAA may make the decision easier for you.

Personally, I just want players slotted properly. Too many AA players playing AAA, A players playing AA, BB players playing A and House League Players playing BB.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. This is exactly our situation. When borders open up my son wants to play with his spring/summer hockey buddies in the G, can’t wait to hear open borders. Hopefully we’re able to leave the OMHA without having to get releases.

For us it's the politics why this is great. For rep selections it's who the coach's are friends with and drunk beer in each other garage. This will start to hold small town boards accountable. If You don't pick the best team well you will just be playing against them. Glad this will clean up this garbage
