OHF Opening borders??
Re: OHF Opening borders??
One thing is whether the GTHL and OMHA will put limits on how many non residential kids allowed on each team. This could limit movement.
Re: OHF Opening borders??
Current GTHL limit is 3 per team. Need to see if anything changes.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 12:17 pm One thing is whether the GTHL and OMHA will put limits on how many non residential kids allowed on each team. This could limit movement.
I wish I could have seen the OMHA board's faces through this

They better not it defeats the purpose. Finally open borders. The way it should be.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 12:17 pm One thing is whether the GTHL and OMHA will put limits on how many non residential kids allowed on each team. This could limit movement.
Re: OHF Opening borders??
You will see OMHA and Alliance tell all associations to define their boundary and NOT let any imports in. Says it right in the info on OHF website.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 11:40 amTHIS. FAQs were clear that any association can dictate how many local kids they want on a team, but they can not prohibit a player from leaving the association.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 11:19 amAlliance and OMHA already voted down open borders internally. They have to follow the OHF's policies as they are the governing body.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 11:16 am Only hope is that OMHA doesn't follow suit. Similar to OHF having closed borders previously and GTHL saying the heck with that we like open and operating as such even being apart of OHF. It is possible OHF supports open and OMHA and Alliance still operate with closed border programming.
A local center can impose their own rules like we want 80% of the team to be made up of kids that live here but they are no longer able to hold a kid to the center. If the OMHA says they're not following the OHF rules, players will just submit an appeal to the OHF and they will approve every release since it aligns with their policy. It's open fella, sorry you're not happy about it but it should've been this way the whole time.
The player movement will apply universally. Associations can restrict their enrollment to players from a geographic area but can limit the choice of players internal to their traditional boundaries from leaving.
And the whole bit on Tampering with parents and coaches ...good luck with that! That's as old as time itself, won't change. You're going to have back room deals and tampering allllllll day long now, at every level. Association will say no imports, except for the following teams. Associations, let your coaches decide! This might be a whole lot of nothing.
All this says is we can't restrict you from leaving, but we can restrict you on where you can go. Hope I'm wrong, let's see what these local brain dead boards do.
Re: OHF Opening borders??
Looking for some clarity on this point in the memo..
Pause on addition of Representative Teams for U10 and Above
The OHF is implementing a temporary hold on the addition of Rep teams at U10 age group and above by Associations and OHF Members. This hold will allow for a thorough review and adjustment of the number of teams at each age group and Category.
If you are currently a B centre and have already been through the process of applying to become and A centre next season, does the above point apply? I am trying to full understand what that point is referring to.

Re: OHF Opening borders??
OMHA/Alliance/GTHL/etc approved this.
U9 and below is still being dictated by the members, so OMHA will continue to use boundaries for U7-U9MD programming.
Also leagues like W.O.A.A. will continue to use boundaries for U9 and below LL as they do today.
Next phase is to start breaking down the members and mix Alliance/OMHA into 1 body and reform into a single league of conferences. Guelph/Hespeler not playing against Cambridge/Kit/Waterloo needs to end, and with open borders there is no need for this league separation any longer.
This is similar to what Junior C hockey has become.

It means if you haven't amalgamated already and applied for reclassification they're going to do it for you by centre size and geography. So you'll likely see the end of C and D rep hockey in small towns up to 45 miles away from each other, they'll be either a larger A/BB region now, if you can't reclass to B, welcome to local league only centre. Start picking your new association names for the larger A centre, it's coming.
Re: OHF Opening borders??
It’s easier to get into team of choice since you no longer need a release but if orgs restrict how many non residential players allowed in then you will be blocked regardless unless your kid is the top 3-4 on a team. This needs clarification from the individual associations.
