Amazing. Practice is very important but if you get no opportunities to play. Keep practicing and warming benches buddy. I’m sure it must feel better to justify your kid playing 3 shifts a game. Must be doing wonders for his development.

You guys are confused with how it works. To reach your potential it is a 24/7 ocd with the sport! Practice means nothing if you don’t really want to be there, same for games! Kids are all in when they are having success on the ice and feeling the support of the coaches belief in them. This translates into them believing in themselves.

Now imagine being held back and missing shifts because the coach does not believe in you. It makes it real easy not to love the sport anymore. Regardless of them telling you otherwise ( what you want to hear).
And remember every kid has a different ceiling ,only a small percentage can be great for many reasons.

Well said. If only parents could understand this concept. They will realize when it’s all over and it’s too late. Kudos to the parents who realize their kid is not going to be a hockey player and put their kid in AA so they can play and enjoy these years playing and contributing to a team. When the years are gone, they’re gone.

The most honest post in a very long time. When you have a coach like the guy on JRC and TM who won’t even roll the lines in the 3rd when the team is up by 5 what does that tell you for developing kids. If parents think their kid will magically become great warming the bench and practice think again . If you can go somewhere else and be in a situation to be 1st or 2nd liner do it. Stop chasing jerseys.

This all sounds like coaches and dads desperate attempts to recruit some of the top 3s lower players to new teams.

No this sounds like some top 3 coach trying not to scare kids from coming over but it’s evident what the reality on those teams is. Any parent thinking it’s a good place having your kid play 3 shifts a game when blowing out a bottom feeder is really sad.
