The only thing that tells me is that the parents need a psych evaluation.
I am sure people say that about all of us paying $5k+ for a season. The kid seems to love it, is good at it and and I presume they can afford it. He'd be well served to move up if he really is putting in all that extra work. It would be incredible for my kid to have that kind of drive for anything lol
Kids can thrive in these types of schools, particularly if they are athletic and driven as you said and the parents are invested in seeing them succeed.

And as we all know, the public school system is broken and overrun with kids but severely underfunded. For what they are learning daily, you don't need 6 hours of instruction. It can be done much better and more efficiently in half a day and allow talented kids to spend the other time improving their skating and skills. They will get a lot more out of it than a team practice which is often hurried and in which you have to focus on close to 20 kids playing different positions and having different skills. The other benefit is that you know the instruction is very good unlike you taking your player to 5 different development skates a week with maybe good coaches but maybe also awful grifters who just want their $70/hour.

If you want to play AA and be average, maybe your team ice time is enough. If you want to be high end AA or AAA, you need a lot of extra time on ice and this is just a different way of ensuring your kid is getting it. It sounds like it’s working for the MB player.

#11 is a nice player. I like his game. Definitely a top AA player. Lots of time to develop into a good AAA player but he's not an impact AAA player currently by any means.

MB only cutting 2 or 3, losing 1 to AAA, keeping goalies.

MNS only cutting 2 or 3, keeping goalies.

HVS hoping to cut almost half, neither goalie returning.

WML looking for 4-5.

MT looking for 4-5.

TE very hush hush.

VP looking for maybe 2 depending on AAA departures. Looking for goalie.
What about the east? Seems like East parents are quiet...
Whether cutting or not, have seen many VP kids at AAA skates.

What's your point? They are at the skates. Who knows if they will make it or not. You must be daft to jump to that conclusion so quickly WML dad....

How the mighty are falling. Great time of year to see some upsets. Playoffs should be interesting…

Objective observations for west end of season:

VP and FT are both struggling in the home stretch.

MB looks very strong but they have some tough games coming up which will tell the tale.

MNS is coming back strong to end the season.

VR is looking strong as well.

Everyone else is flailing, winning a game against a top team then losing to a bottom team. There could be some upsets from the 6-13 seed but not sustained, they'll just be one offs.

Streetsville looks pretty good - strong kids up front but goalie not great.

West Mall and Humber Valley both have AAA caliber goalies, that can be unpredictable in the playoffs.

VP and MNS are done playing each other, but there are all kinds of combos between the top 4 teams in games to still come. Exciting!

VP parents can't see straight. There is maybe 1 D who could go AAA and he's not even the top D in the loop. If they make the jump they're going to a "new and exciting" TRW which will be a great experience on the back of a season where they were the best team in AA. Only a crazy parent would do that but the crazies all flock to Vaughan like bees to honey.

Guest wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 7:51 pm NYK wouldn’t beat any of VP, MNS, MB. FT - maybe. The East is so bad this year.
NYK beat MB earlier this year and took VP to overtime. While the west is likely a deeper more competitive division, it is still possible the tournament champ may come out of the east.
NT is better than NYK, if somebody's coming out of the East it will be them.

And they will likely win because the west is deep and those teams are gonna beat up on each other hard, leaving the last one standing bloodied and bruised.
