While it's great to support your child's passion for the sport, it's crucial to remember that the majority of players will only ever play at this level. So, rather than getting caught up in future expectations or living vicariously through the game, it’s time to focus on what really matters: your own life, your own happiness, and helping your child enjoy the present moment. Hockey should be a healthy and fun outlet, not a source of stress or obsession. Let the kids play, and parents, take a step back to relax.
For most kids playing at the single-A level (or below), hockey is indeed more about fun, development, and teamwork rather than a path to professional careers or high-level championships. The vast majority of players will not advance beyond minor hockey, and even fewer will play at elite levels like junior, college, or professional hockey. So, in that sense, the statement is accurate—parents should prioritize their child's enjoyment and growth over long-term ambitions.

However, some parents and players do take hockey seriously at this level, aiming to progress to AA, AAA, or beyond. While it's rare, some players do move up the ranks, and proper development, effort, and support can help. So, while it's good advice for parents to keep things in perspective and not stress over outcomes, it’s also fair to recognize that for some families, hockey is more than just a casual activity.

I agree, did Leaside only win last night because of their goalie? Or were they overall the better team
LF lacks discipline and have a few problematic players. Not to mention the bench which are mostly entitled douche bags.
They would beat the shit out of every team in the league they are overall the best by far
Leaside is a dirty Not allowed team, douche bag couch and number 50 is short but a dirty player. Last game against Scarborough he broke a kids wrist by intentionally hitting the guy because they were down 5-1. Just shows how big of sore losers the players and the coaching staff do not help out at all.
Funny how playing SIR turns every team into a bunch of goons and cheap shot artists.
Every team seems to want to intimidate SIR but it doesn’t seem to work. If teams would put forth a better effort into playing the outcomes might be different. It was a cheap hit but the kids wrist isn’t broken.
It was a great hit tbh

Enjoy the susy #50 - great way to end your season. And your coach is caught on a hot mic telling the SIR coach to "STFU" after you lost. It wasnt a ref issue, its a coach issue for Leaside.

Same this happened to us when we played Leaside. Once the game is out of reach the stupid hockey comes out and that all on the coach for not controlling that behavior. This is why they were a bottom team last season and are one again this season.

Sounds like a LF vs VRE Series would be awesome...bunch of sucky children and parents...they can hurt each other all they want and then be so proud of their accomplishments

I do agree, the root reason for both teams acting the way they have, is the coach...it is their responsibility to control the bench and keep the players heads in check.

Can’t wait for the SIR parents to add TR to the list of cheap shot intimidators with horrible people coaching sucky kids. You know it’s coming after the next game!

I've noticed a lot of comments about Leaside and how their coaches encourage fighting. But before jumping to conclusions, it's important to understand where these kids are coming from. When you're growing up in a tough neighborhood, sometimes aggression is a way of survival, not just a game strategy. That doesn’t excuse bad coaching, but it does explain why certain attitudes develop. Instead of just criticizing, maybe we should be looking at how to support these kids and give them better opportunities.
