Guest wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 9:14 am I have a question if anybody else has experiences or if I’m standing alone in this situation. My son was offered a spot on the TBD Brick team that seem to be contingent on him becoming a TM. The power of suggestion at the time of the conversation about Brick was alluding to him having to play both once I spoke with my son. He doesn’t wanna change his current coaching staff or team as he’s happy and comfortable after discussing these concerns with the TBD, coaching staff or head of staff They explained to us that my son wasn’t good enough to be able to leverage not playing with both that he would only be chosen if he can commit to a full season at TM . Is this common? I’ve never heard anything like this from PhD parent I spoke to. Can somebody please touch on this?

It felt super disrespectful to hear that I’m not sure how to explain the situation to our son. Anybody else having a problem with this?
My kid got the same offer, several parents in same boat. They have offered 25 kids spots on TM next yr.
Not having a kid in your situation I would say this. First off commits to both teams can be pulled by coaches pretty much anytime up to that tournament. If they are using a tournament team to extort parents i to playing for their club team what does that say about them.

If your kid is happy playing where he is keep them there. Take a family vacation same time as the tournament and no one will even think of it.

And lastly its a tournament played in a mall
In Edmonton
In July.

Quite frankly I am surprised some other group has not come up with a better tournament during the same time in a better location and facilities.

There are four kinds of parents when it comes to the Brick...

1. The Brick is the be all and end all. Puts your kid on track to make the NHL. Spend every dollar possible to make it happen for your kid.
2. My kid is talented enough to make a Brick team but I'm not going to bend over backwards for it. I admit it's the top tournament for 10 year olds.
3. Brick schmick. Waste of money. Kid is talented enough to be there but no chance I'm spending that money. Will instead do other high calibre tournaments and save 15k.
4. You guys are all nuts. My kid is gonna play baseball this summer.

RK, ZL, JS are their top 3 and seems like they have all committed elsewhere.
NYR = nobody cares
Going to NATS, due to the stellar coaching and development many spots available there next year.

Love that everyone hates on JRC TM, TYN, DMF

Top 4 always get talked about that's how this goes , 2014, 2013, 2012 same thing.
Nice try, lumping in other teams to distract from all the negative attention your about to receive. You have a very well known reputation for F***ING people over.
The NATS coach should get his kid in a learn to skate program.

Not a bad option considering Barrie out coached the NATS and almost beat them in Oakville. Stay on the NATS with inept coaching.
