2008 GTHL AA West
Re: 2008 GTHL AA West
Look at teams that appear to be well coached rather than if coach is paid. Paid coach doesn't automatically mean success or even that they're good at coaching. There are teams that are failing despite a full team and paid coaches so you got to wonder if it's the coaching. For U18 AA there isn't much sense in the money spent so just find good hockey even at single A if your kid wants to play. More and more kids drop down to avoid the unnecessary injuries, free up time for school/work/other interests, and it's still fast competitive hockey.

A couple? LOL. Try every kid and parent on the top 6 West teams. Keep living the dream, you can still make the show.

At this age, most kids should realize the NHL dream isn’t exactly realistic, so focusing on school is way more important. Worrying about extra development or chasing teams with paid coaches isn’t really necessary. A lot of these “big name” coaches are just running a business, they’ve got two or three teams, hockey schools, camps... your kid’s just a number to them. Honestly, find a team where your kid’s happy, plays good hockey, and has fun. That’s what really matters.

You make some good points but not sure there are any “big name” coaches in U17 AA?Guest wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 11:01 amGuest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 1:11 pm Look at teams that appear to be well coached rather than if coach is paid. That’s correct, my mistake. The coaches are parents or in it for the money. Usually they have a couple teams on the go.
Re: 2008 GTHL AA West
Top 4 get a first round bye and the next 8 have a first round playoff- winner is first to 6 pts
Re: 2008 GTHL AA West
Bye is not necessarily a good thing. Sitting around waiting for the other series to end can be problematic. Look for a few upsets in round 2.
