You need to understand no team coach will do skills. They expect parents do extra for skill. I won't say what team I am, but I'll be honest, I think we did TOO MUCH skills as a team early in the year. I understand why the coaches did it, we had a team that didn't have a lot of "skill" to begin with. But, I think it was too much of the focus, not enough on actual hockey.

There is no reason why people should be paying $10k for hockey. Kids should be focused on learning how to play hockey, not learning how to shoot, or skate, etc. (Or at least it should be a small percentage of the time spent on ice).
A perfect practice in my mind:
10% warm up / cool down
20% skills
70% Hockey systems, plays, positioning, video review, white boarding, etc.
If you need to get better at skating, spend your summer skating. If you need a better shot, get in your drive way and shoot pucks, if you need better stick handling, go get a private lesson with a coach.
If you are on my team, our practices are about making the TEAM better.
