Any team that isn’t focusing on skills is going to fall behind eventually.

You need to understand no team coach will do skills. They expect parents do extra for skill. Coachs won't develop skills, They just replace players with better skills

So for $10k a year, you get no skills development? Parents are really expected to spend another $10k on skills?

If your coach doesnt "do skills" - look for a new coach asap. What are you people talking about these days??

There is no reason why people should be paying $10k for hockey. Its insane, (all of it), but the GTHL takes it to another level.

Kids should be focused on learning how to play hockey, not learning how to shoot, or skate, etc. (Or at least it should be a small percentage of the time spent on ice).

A perfect practice in my mind:

10% warm up / cool down
20% skills
70% Hockey systems, plays, positioning, video review, white boarding, etc.

If you need to get better at skating, spend your summer skating. If you need a better shot, get in your drive way and shoot pucks, if you need better stick handling, go get a private lesson with a coach.

If you are on my team, our practices are about making the TEAM better.

100% agree with this post…that being said a portion of a budget is often used to cover sessions with a skills coach/skating coach that works on continuous individual improvement (from my experience anyways).
