Guest wrote: Sat Mar 22, 2025 7:43 pm Just wanted to give a heads up to some of the folks on here before they get blindsided at next year’s tryouts: the days of minor hockey being a closed club for the same old families are over.

We’re Pakistani. We’re new Canadians. And we’re coming, not just one kid at a time, but entire families. I’ve got five kids, all in the system. My oldest is U16 AAA this year, logged major minutes on the PK, plays shutdown D, and still chips in offensively. Coaches love him because he’s disciplined, doesn’t chirp, doesn’t party, and just wants to work. I don’t need to say too much about him, the scouts are already watching.

But he’s just the beginning. ;)

The real story is the next wave. I’ve got four more in the pipeline, all younger, all hungry, all raised on halal protein, backyard stickhandling sessions, and not a second of Fortnite. They’re not interested in cricket, that’s old world. This new generation? They’re all about the CHL, the Frozen Four, and yes, making it. I go to public skating on weekends and I see brown families flooding the rinks. Whole communities showing up now. It’s not a one-off anymore.

We’ve figured out the game. Not just the on-ice part, but the politics, the camps, the spring teams, the off-season grind, the gear, the development tracks. We’re investing, we’re networking, and we’re not here to make up numbers.

You can scoff, roll your eyes, say it’s just a phase, but I’ve been around long enough now to see what’s happening. A generation ago, our parents were putting us in cricket leagues. Now we’re the dads, and we’re putting our kids into power skating at age 4 and hiring shooting coaches before they hit Novice.

You think your kid’s got a lock on that AAA spot? Better hope he’s working, because my 12-year-old just passed him in development, and he picked up the sport three years ago. This is what happens when you combine work ethic with opportunity.

Call it what you want. I call it the Brown Wave. It’s real, it’s growing, and it’s not slowing down.

See you at tryouts.
If you are planning on making the team during the tryouts you’re in for a surprise, the team is already picked!
This is clearly an OMHA dad.. likely from Milton Oakville or somewhere there… and on behalf of all other brown dads please don’t write anything like this… I am a brown dad myself and I wish there was a way to delete your post. No civilized educated brown dad would write this.. learn from Zayne Parekh’s dad
You’re one of the white-washed brown dad’s bought and paid for, you are part of the small minority who aren’t in on this brown movement. I've been in minor hockey long enough now to see how it works. Let's not act like this is all about talent. Half the time it's about who you know, what camps your kid goes to, who the coach golfs with in the summer, and who's been around the rink since Timbits.

We see it. We're not stupid. You think immigrant parents are just sitting there in the stands not understanding what's going on? Trust me, we figured it out. We just didn't say anything. Until now.

You've got politics? We've got programs. You've got buddies in high places? We've got private coaching, home gyms, and a hunger that your kid will never understand.

I know parents who immigrated ten years ago and now run spring teams with twenty kids on them. I know uncles who used to be cricket coaches back home and are now skating treadmill specialists in Scarborough. Moms running dryland training groups out of community centres. Families renting ice at midnight just to get extra reps.

We're not trying to fit into your system anymore. We're building our own. And here's the scary part. It's working. Every year, more brown kids cracking AAA. More brown names on the stat sheets. More brown families in the arena lobby not asking for directions, but giving them. These kids aren't just playing the game, they're changing it.

So keep your politics. Keep your friend-coach setups. Keep your recycled drills and gatekeeping, because we're not here to ask for a seat at your table. We're building a new one. And everyone's invited.

Except maybe your kid, if he can't backcheck.
Your obviously a troll
Just wait and see where the sport is in a year or two. Just like your banking industry, we’re taking over hockey too. It’s not a joke bud. This has to be the other brown dad again trying to deny reality.
Why make this sounds ominous and threatening ?
We welcome you to our country and our sport. Enjoy.
Would you say this to a host that welcomes you to their home?
“We are going to take over your home and throw you out! We are going to exploit your empathy and generosity”!?

Enjoy fasting during playoffs.

Why do you care? Worry about your own team and your own kid.

Why can't people handle that? Went to a MM skate and from what I saw, they will be improved for sure. How much they improve is a different question. But from the team they had this season, its not that hard to improve from that tbh.

A better MM is good for the league. Honestly they are/were a joke. I hope they get better and give us a fair fight. Tired of seeing our kids punch down on those poor kids. So sad.

Agree! But can they really get better with the same coach? If you think so then essentially you’re blaming the kids for a failed season. Who picked those kids? Who failed to develop them? If they lacked talent who lied to their families and told them they were ready? Surely it can’t be the 10yr olds faults.

Coaching is what attracts talent. There is a reason all the top players train with the same handful of coaches. Why the top teams have the best players, with the best coaching.

MM is a good option to get your feet wet in AAA. If your kid has potential, a good coach will poach you from depths. Till then just be glad you are invited to the dance. You get the snicklefritz of coaches until you prove yourself!

If your kid was cut, stop coming here and blaming coaches… make your kid better.. you have the off season to get better.. if you believe your kid is good, there are 11 other G teams to call.. if none of them take your kid, you know you need to take dad goggles out and improve your kid. Period. Stop coming here and blasting coaches.. it’s very evident when you have 2 pages dedicated on one team and the team has mostly AA kids.

Don’t be worried MM has big plan.
1. Change name to Markham Maple Leafs. That way get prestigious nhl logo and attract good kids to make current best kids better. Current name and logo mean nothing. What is Major anyway?
2. Bring in new coach to make kids even better.
3. Win cup!
