HVS is simply not a good place for development. You may not be able to appreciate how much a player loses in a bad development year at this stage. By committing to rep hockey, and especially in the G, there is an expectation that the coaching will be solid, that the families are invested in seeing their kids and first and foremost that every member of the team is being developed with the same principles in mind. There is a problem when a coach has one of his own kids on a team and that kid benefits from extra ice time or even just being on a team that they're not good enough for. Just like there is a problem when a coach makes U10 the cornerstone of his career and treats the playoffs as if they are the Stanley Cup. It's not about the coach - it's about the kids.

Every coach should look back at the end of the season and be able to say, each of those kids really developed to their potential. Of course you may come across problem kids who have behavioural issues on or off the ice, or who can't play nicely with others, or who aren't committed to working as hard as the rest of the team. But for the most part, these are committed families in terms of time and money and coaches should see that very very seriously as their obligation to do their very best.

If HVS is still looking for players then obviously parents aren't tripping over themselves to go there. For a reason.

I didn’t write this, but I’m pretty sure the author wasn’t trying to be racist or anything like that. It seems like just another joke about HSV and the stereotype that its parent group is overly focused on progressive causes like gender identity, masks, or climate activism. Instead of Singh, it could’ve easily been a now-retired feminist or any other symbolic figure from that side.
