The differences between these ‘top’ teams are so small. If there are more than 3-4 points seperating them at the end of the season it would be very surprising.

VR should be in the mix and there’s a good chance they even finish ahead.

FT and MNS may be close

MB looked a few notches below both to me.

And that was even with their one AAA kid providing a boost.

They could be midpack next year

Goaltending - FT has the edge over the other two. Goalie is big, moves well and isn’t afraid to come out of the net. Doesn’t give up many rebounds. MB and MNS look about the same but give the edge to MB due to goalie’s big size difference. This could be a problem for MNS as they only had 1 goalie dress?

Speed - MNS easily because their D as a group are very fast. Forwards are more evenly matched. MNS 19 is the fastest of any of the kids but MNS also has some snails hiding on bottom lines. FT is faster than MB, everyone is good.

Size - FT and MB tie. MNS has gotten bigger but not big enough.

Forwards - FT has the most depth based on what I saw. Their top forwards are also bigger. MNS second. MB hasn’t replaced their best player 11 with somebody as good.

Defence - MNS by a country mile. Not on their team but if we’re honest there are at least 2 if not 3 D they have that are better than anyone on MB or FT. Credit to their D coach, that guy is running a tight and unmatched ship. MB is next, FT last.

Coaching - MNS and MB tie. Both teams are playing a game that looks like hockey starts to look in U12-13. FT relies on individual strength but is not pretty to watch.

Overall? Probably FT.
The Toros have to feel good about the weekend they didn't win BUT they only lost one game same as the eventual winner. And by the looks of the whole NorthStars team cheering loudly against the Toros in the semi-finals, the NorthStars are terrified to play them again. That's a bad way to go into a season and watch for the Toros to have the upperhand again.

I've noticed that all three teams — FT, MNS, and Beast — have relatively similar rosters: a mix of A to AAA players, a few tall kids, a few fast ones, and some strong defenders. What made FT and MNS stand out, however, was their higher hockey IQ and — for lack of a better word — greater discipline or stronger coaching authority. Both teams followed their game plans and consistently prioritized team play over individual ego.

In contrast, while the Beast have some very skilled defenders and forwards, the kids played a very selfish game or don't understand the game. Forwards repeatedly chose to carry the puck themselves, even when teammates were in better positions. Defenders kept trying to show off fancy stickhandling in front of their own net or attempted to score from the blue line. Aside from their new girl, the tall forward, and the kid in dark blue socks, players rarely passed or positioned themselves to receive a pass. It's not a big deal in a fun tournament, but if bring it to next year, they'll have many problems.
While this might have worked last season, it won’t hold up this year against more organized teams. If the Beast can address this issue, they could easily finish in the top 2–3. If not, they’ll likely end up at the bottom of the strong-team pool.

The upper hand will be had if half the MNS roster is down with the flu and thats about it

I will repeat myself, the changes on D for MNS give them such a potent advantage over the rest of the league. 1-6 are solid unlike last year they really only had the top 2 who they could rely on. Those 2 are now a pairing and might just be the top 2 D in the loop.

Upfront they have brought in some very very strong talent.

Goalie is as solid as they come.

No weak links in the lineup

They one a tourney this weekend without even holding a team practice yet. Wait to see this team in October.

MNS=Problem!

You've all been warned.
