The physical differences between a 17 yr old and 20 yr old are pretty significant. Odds are in Jr a kid that young will not see a lot of quality time especially if the team has kids sent down from an OHL team.
In U18 practicing 2 times a week, playing against kids 1 yr older and playing 60 min games will allow a player to improve with increased ice time and opportunity while not getting run over by a 20 yr old.
So.... in other words.... Its for the parents ego. Parents rather say my 15/16 year old plays Junior and not u18. They dont see ice time but they are on the team. What losers.
Even if they take them on the team, for budget money, they done see much ice time and are riding the pine pretty much all season. Then the parents can go nuts and waste their time trying to figure out why their little “hockey prodigy” isn’t playing.
