2009 GTHL West A
Re: 2009 GTHL West A
Majority of them don’t even know what a pro trainer is. Defining yourself as a pro trainer means that you played beyond a certain level and were paid to play hockey. Much unlike calling yourself a pro because you played Jr or OHL and have opened up a hockey school on the side after becoming a plumber by trade.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Apr 05, 2025 1:00 pm If that’s all that’s to it, why doesn’t your team use pro
Trainers?

What A team this year is looking for players still and will be competitive or most improved? AA drop down.
Re: 2009 GTHL West A
I’d say stay on the top of the top teams in A as I’m sure they are still making changes up to the last minute as long as player is good. Coaches are willing to cut players if they think the incoming player is slightly better. Open boarders have really changed the U17 landscape which can only make the loops more competitive which is not a bad thingGuest wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 9:24 pm What A team this year is looking for players still and will be competitive or most improved? We’ve all been around long enough in this age group to hear of stories of coaches cutting kids after they committed and players leaving after committing or being part of it and experiencing it personally which I guess I’m saying “giving your word” means what really?
I wouldn’t be surprised if a few surprises are yet to come from coaches to players and vice versus.
It’s hard to wait until tryouts to take the chance and best to find a spot where your kid is wanted and will enjoy the game
I’d say
Avs are most likely locked in and full - great team and built to win
Rangers are willing to cut if the right player comes along and I’d hazard a guess a player or 2 will leave last minute due to culture
Sharks would be a good spot to look but most likely full - great team
Wolverines could be the surprise team next year
Royals (former GT Caps) will be a solid mid pack team than could surprise some and finish top 4 or higher given the new look
Eagles have alway been a mid pack team with a few minor tweaks could push for top 4 - always a solid choice and great coach
Duffield will be a rebranded OMHA team which should do well and would consider them if looking for a spot - dark horse
WM has been a one man show and now that player is moving to AA could either help or really hurt them. I’d guess they finish 7/8 no matter the additions - not a great program
New Caps will be old Duffield in new colours - stay away
Panthers are the wild card - complete rebuild and not sure how they fill the team
No easy choice and not many spots available at this point. Open boarders have now combined 2 leagues and can only make the G stronger going forward.
Good luck in your search and stay on the coaches in A - it all comes down to who you know at this point

Would have to agree. Saw TR skate and AA kids were not all better than A kids. Not to say the AA all weren’t good. Granted is was the better of the A skates my kid has participated in.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 12:43 am AA player doesn’t mean as much as once did

Did you happen to go to a HV / VR / or Eagles skate if they had one yet and how did they compare to the TR one. I heard WM was still looking not long ago but might be full now as they were adding a few AA kids so should be a decent team as well if spots still available.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 4:31 pmWould have to agree. The thing AA players “should” be able to bring is a better understanding of the game and playing in a system compared to typical A players who might be lacking in that area.

I don't think Eagles or HV had any skates. They are taking AA kids from within their own organizations and don't make a lot of cuts if any.

VR, TA, HVS they probably already got their teams and everything. VR and TA probably made 2-3 changes and Avalanche got another new goalie
