Hey,
I am very interested to hear if anyone has any recent experience with Ontario youth players moving from an unsanctioned hockey league (i.e. ORHL, KSL) to a sanctioned hockey league (GTHL, OMHA) ? My nephew is considering re-joining a sanctioned league after playing in an unsanctioned league for the past couple seasons and we are curious what he can expect.
-Were there any unexpected hurdles or resistance from the sanctioned league when trying to join?
-If your youth player is trying to make a tryout-based team (i.e. A, AA, AAA), were there any additional barriers? For example, trying to navigate the sign-up and administration of the tryout process without being registered in a Hockey Canada program the year prior?
-Were you honest during the registration process? For example, one of the questions is typically 'what organization did you play for last season'
-Any additional challenges with the Hockey Canada-Spordle registration portal, and the few years gap in Hockey Canada registration, for those who may have played in a sanctioned league prior and are now returning?
-Any stigmas or backlash from the league / coaches / parents when they found out your child previously played in a 'rogue' league?
-Any other sage advice to help him navigate this process?
Thanks in advance!
