Just curious which org in the Oakville area is better? Burlington? Milton? Hamilton/Glancaster? Regardless of the Oakville executive, do you honestly think kids are going to flock to those other orgs? I'm sure at least half the players in Burlington are already making plans to leave LOL

“Half the players in Burlington making plans to leave”. You sir are a clown. The Rangers organization is no better than the Eagles. The only thing you should be chasing is a coach and the environment he creates. Leaving one centre because another is “better” is fools gold. Rangers have their share of great coaches as well as their share of guys who should never have been given a team. Absolutely no different than Burlington or Milton. Crest and logo mean nothing.
Oakville is a gong show, they were the ones that pushed for unlimited imports. While also talking about preserving hometown hockey, the org is run by a guy who changed all the rules to prevent anyone from running against him and his buddy’s. They haven’t had an election for ANY positions in over 5 years. Anyone who decides the Oakville grass is greener is in for a shock. Milton/Halton and Burlington are 10 times the org Oakville is. This is coming from someone whose kids have played across all 3 orgs over the last 10 years.
Your kids have played across 3 orgs in 10 years? And Oakville president is the problem? Quit the day drinking and sort yourself out man.

Don't forget how the great Oakville leadership covered a sexual assault of a young boy who was forced to perform fellatio on his teammates at a party at one of his teammates houses recently. The coach who also covered it up is still coaching for the Oakville Rangers. Classy organization.

Hopefully, this helps even out the teams and puts players at the proper levels, I think this open borders will benefit the AA divisions of the smaller population centre's for example Flamborough and Niagara Falls, these centre's will attract players, the oakvilles and burlingtons will lose players to the G

isn't it a net zero for most of these orgs, like Oakville specifically? kids can move to the G without needing a release. But what about the kids currently in the G who get displaced? They have to go somewhere. And unless teams are added to the G won't surrounding areas pick up these kids?

Something that I feel will have a major effect on this announcement is how many associations are going to cap the number of 'non resident' players and what will that cap be? This will only be associations well outside of the major centres I am guessing. Should associations just open it up and pick the best players available or is there some that feel home town kids deserve a spot if they are close to the abilities needed for the team they are trying out for? I only have 1 year left with my son so I am neither for or against this announcement, just curious to hear some thoughts.

I doubt they will add caps because it will defeat the purpose of open borders. Kids who are close to the G will go there if they feel it’s a better situation and the kids who don’t make the team can likewise try out for an OMhA center in return. This would allow for roster spots to be filled. Adding more teams will only make the G weaker and OMHA even further weaker and so that’s why it makes sense why they will not allow for new teams to be added.

Lots of associations get discounted ice from public rinks run by their home cities. Taxpayers aren’t going to be excited to find out their tax dollars are paying for kids from other cities. Should taxpayer funded rinks give preference to teams with local players? Should cities give up rinks? Can’t have your cake and eat it too.

this is true, i knwo our centre is between 18-20% discount, and when you spend well over 200k in ice time, that number is large.
so centres will and should be capping numbers if i am betting. ( likely around the NRP # currently ) which is more than fair.
players can leave is the biggest takeaway, but ppl are quick to forget , that "team" they want to go to , might have 5pm practice a couple days a week, and a hour + drive to get there... need the job and lifestyle to make it work.
lots of pro's and cons on this.
outside the GTHL - i am hearing way more cons than pro's.

Our son plays in gthl and has 5pm weekday practice time. Most parents have nightmare trying to get them there on time. Not just getting off work but school ends at 330 and the rink is 25-40 min drive depending on weather.

If you like having “home” games stay in OMHA. Gthl will schedule teams to play home games wherever they can stuff em in.
